READY FOR NEXT DUCK HUNTING SEASON!!

Duck hunting is a type of waterfowl hunting. They are mostly hunted near the water bodies or in the crops and fields where they feed.

DUCK HUNTING SEASONS:

The season is mostly in autumn and winter. The Wildlife conservation department sets the seasons.

The new practices clear many landscapes, and similarly, weather patterns alter the feeding and migratory behavior of birds.

DUCK HUNTING TECHNIQUES AND TIPS:

There are certain techniques you can follow for success in the next duck hunt season.

SCOUTING:

The key to enjoying consistent success is scouting. Finding the X is very important, and you can gain this with experience. Fujan says

"When scouting birds in the evening, I always keep watching them until they leave the area."

This thing helps to find out the exact location where to hunt and saves time and effort. The best time for scouting is in the morning.

CONTROLLING RETRIEVER:

There are many breeds of duck hunting dogs, and each has its strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, you must have to understand those during training.

"Getting your retriever to transfer the skills he learned during training to an actual hunting situation isn't always easy," Schaefer says.

You must put him in a situation where he not only marks the falling birds but also stays concealed and out of harm's way.

BUILDING PERMANENT BLINDS:

The most important and impactful decision is to build a blind that waterfowl hunters never take lightly. To put a blind, you must understand the birds' flying patterns.

"It is rare for me to put up a new blind in an area that we have just started developing as a waterfowl habitat"____ Vandemore.

WEATHER ADAPTATION:

"My biggest concern is how the wind is going to affect where I'm hiding the hunters. If I've got a wind coming from a bad direction for hunting a certain field, I'll need to have a backup plan in place. I'll make concealment the top priority."_____ Manteufel explains.

The wind is often the most challenging element in any weather forecast. Snow, cold temperatures, and rain will change waterfowl behavior. The condition in which wind is in your face makes the birds confused because hunters hide well.

BEST DUCK HUNTING SPOTS:

As a professional, successful duck hunter, you must have knowledge about certain marshes, fields, creeks, timber holes where you can find ducks. Some of the top 5 best duck hunting spots are listed below.

  • Cedar Rapids

  • Grand Junction

  • Minatare

  • Defiance

  • Quitman

CEDAR RAPIDS:

The second-largest city in Iowa. Marshes expert Barnie Calef says that

"It's not a J shape, it's a giant L, and it's based on years of observing mallards landing at the edge of concentrations of birds."

When you are hunting duck either from the boat or blind, make sure the sun is out and wind behind you. When there is sun, you can use spinning-wing decoys, and under cloudy skies, use Higdon Pulsators.

GRAND JUNCTION:

Grand Junction is a municipality in Colorado. The field area has plenty of space where ducks and geese are resting and feeding.

"Space gives you a chance to be able to work the birds within the spread, but on days with little or no wind. So, you don't have anything helping you create an urgency to land,"  Schaefer says.

MINATARE:

The Minatare is the cover-up in Nebraska. The river in western Nebraska attracts many waterfowl each season, but hunters turn the waterfowl attraction to the warm water creeks.

"Especially on those cold, snowy, or windy days, birds are getting up off the river and looking for protection in the smaller creeks” ____ Ross Juelfs.

DEFIANCE:

Defiance in Missouri is a point that is attractive to hunters. The point is the place that extends in the lake and offers waterfowl protection from waves and winds.

The hunters can set up decoys in an area with high visibility. Consider the tip by the expert McCauley while setting up the blind.

"When you build a permanent blind, situate it to maximize the concealment provided by the existing cover, and do what you can to break up its outline by adding layers of brush or branches."

QUITMAN:

The flooded timber of northeast Louisiana is a popular destination for Rig'Em Right pro-staffer Wade Shoemaker, but his setup will work wherever ducks drop through the treetops.

You can set many decoys depending upon your ease. For example, you can create motion in the water, upwind the holes. You can also use spinning-wing decoys.

"You play the cards you're dealt, but you can modify the decoys a bit and set up for a crossing shot if that means you can put the sun at your back and in the eyes of the ducks," _______ Wade Shoemaker.

So, go and enjoy your waterfowl hunting season with better knowledge.
